Holly Class (Year 3 and Year 4)

Hot and Cold Spring 1

Hello and welcome to Holly Class!

Teacher: Mrs Knight and Mrs Wilkins (Tuesday Mornings)

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Hull, Miss Bloxham and Miss Wheadon.

We are so enthusiastic about our learning and have been developing our skills as independent learners. We’re not afraid to make mistakes as this is a pat of learning but we do like to try our very best, present our work beautifully and show you what we can do.

Our focus topic this term is Hot and Cold. We are looking at our planet and climates. Where and why places are hot and cold. We are looking at states of matter in science, heating, evaporation, cooling, condensation.

English:

In English we will be writing across a variety of different genres such as: Descriptions, poetry and narratives.

If you would like to support your child further with their English at home, please continue to hear your children read daily and use Spelling Shed to help develop their spellings. There is an assignment set on this platform, matching their spelling lists each week.

Maths:

We have a lot to look forward to in Maths this term including:

  • Multiplication and division
  • Mesasures - length and perimeter
  • Fractions.

We have our club tables up and running and the children are working super hard already to move on up in the club. Please do help them at home to practise their set each week.

Extra to this they can be supported with the use of TT Rockstars and Maths Shed.

Science:

Our science unit this term is Rocks and Soils. We will be studying and classifying different types of rock and learning about how each has been formed, linking this to the creation of fossils. We will be looking at the layers of soil beneath our feet and recreating it in an edible way, look out for the worms! We are also moving onto looking at plants and conditions for growing as well as states of matter - cooling and heating.

PE:

Currently on a Thursday afternoon and Friday morning . Please make sure kits and trainers are in school.

Homework:

Please hear your children read a little each day. On a Monday, children will be given a list of spellings and a set of times tables from their club to learn. They will need homework books in school on a Monday please. There will also be a Spelling Shed assignment set each week to help the children to learn the spelling rule, or pattern for the week.
