SEND

Special Educational Needs Information and Policies

Mrs Partridge is our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).

She can be contacted via the school office - Telephone 01749 860329.

In September 2014, a statutory Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) was introduced by the Department for Education (DfE). The SEND reforms build on best practice and  join  education, health and care services, from birth to twenty five, to provide the best outcomes for children and young adults.

Local authorities have a duty to publish a Local Offer. This provides all of the services that children and young people with SEND can expect on offer in their authority.

Somerset Council’s Local Offer can be found by following this link:

 https://www.somerset.gov.uk/children-families-and-education/the-local-offer/

Schools are required to publish how they aim to meet these requirements. This is referred to as a School Information Report.

Somerset Graduated Response

Quality first teaching underpins all educational provision. It focuses on inclusive practice and breaks down barriers to learning. For the majority of children this can be achieved by identifying specific barriers, followed by personalisation and differentiation using strategies as identified in the Somerset Graduated Response Tool. The Somerset Graduated Response Tool breaks down SEN into four broad areas of need. This targets specific support for teachers to plan and for any interventions to take place. You can learn more about the Somerset Graduated Response at: https://www.somerset.gov.uk/children-families-and-education/the-local-offer/education/what-to-expect-from-education/

If you have any concerns regarding SEND and your child please contact your child’s class teacher as your first port of call.

• You could also arrange to meet our SENDCo Mrs Knight or our Head of School Mrs Cosser on (01749) 860329 or ditcheatoffice@eastsomerserfederation.co.uk.
